AREVA offers a line of SF6-insulated current transformers from 115 kV up to 765 kV system voltage for metering, protection, and indication applications.

The AREVA SKF design utilizes a modular head-type design, which allow the unit to be built in the most cost-effective fashion in compliance with customer specifications.

Up to 8 independent toroidal cores can be housed in each unit, with each core rated for metering and/or protection accuracy classes.

One advantage of the AREVA head-type design is that the primary conductor (primary winding) is short and straight and thus has a very low inductance. This allows for very high thermal and mechanical current ratings, in excess of 80 kA – 1 second, depending on design.
