Coupling Capacitor Voltage Transformers (CCVT’s)

AREVA Type OTCF
34.5 kV – 765 kV

Coupling capacitor voltage transformers (CCVTs) are used in high-voltage and extra high-voltage transmission systems to provide potential outputs to metering instruments and to protective relays. Standard designs are available with a 0.15%, 0.3%, 0.6%, and 1.2% accuracy classes. In addition, AREVA can equip the CCVTs with carrier accessories to allow power line carrier coupling (PLC) to overhead lines for communication purposes. AREVA manufactures a complete range of CCVTs from 34.5 kV to 765 kV for every application.

AREVA CCVTs provide high reliability because the major insulation of the
CCVT, the capacitor stack, comprised of homogeneously assembled
capacitor elements, is extremely surge resistant irrespective of the waveform of the surge voltage.

CCVTs are typically more cost-effective when compared to wound-type VTs. This cost advantage increases at higher system voltages. CCVTs weigh less than the comparable voltage class VTs and can be shipped with the individual sealed capacitor units disassembled from the base assembly to facilitate easy shipping and handling. This also means lower freight and material handling cost to the customer.

Over time, the insulation integrity of CCVTs is assured by a
metallic diaphragm assembly which hermetically seals the oil from the atmosphere. All external metallic parts are made of corrosion-resistant material, such as aluminum and stainless steel. No painting of the metallic parts is required.

When installed near circuit breakers, the CCVT capacitance improves the short-line fault / transient recovery voltage performance of the breaker.

AREVA CCVTs can be provided with porcelain or polymer insulators.
